Father's Day 2016

In the 3rd Grade, the students in my class had a school project.  We had to write a paper about who our hero was.

Most of the answers were Batman.

But mine was different (mostly because Batman is kind of lame).

I said my father.

Now, at the age of 29... I realize that answer has never changed.

He has always been one of those individuals you immediately respect.  Not because of his demeanor... and not because he demanded it.

It was earned.  His compassion, his pride, his intelligence, his ethics, and his drive were all evident in everything he did.

In a lot of ways, he WAS like a superhero.  He has always been a pillar of integrity... he puts the welfare of others first... and no matter the obstacle, he always overcomes it.

He's my Dad.

This year I turn 30... and the lessons he has taught me have become the moral compass by which I have guided my own child.

Although serving our country had him away at times, he was still always present in my life and the lives of my siblings.  And though I have my faults, I am proud of the man I am... the son I am... and the father I am.

He has taught me so much... and I know he has so much left to teach.

I love you Dad.  Thank you for showing me how to soldier on, how to live with integrity, and how to be a terrific Dad.

Happy Father's Day.
